Remarks
Willem-Jan, Willem-jan@Iname.com
I am a citizen of a neutral country in this conflict (Dutch) however I do not agree with the Chinese attitude towards this conflict.

Spying is done, even by China. Like it or not. The reason the Americans are so apparently present at your coast is to protect other nations from Chinese aggression. Your aggression to the Taiwan issue, and some other island groups is obvious. Change your attitude towards these issues and these planes may disappear.

Second of all you cannot demand an apology in a democratic environment, if you do not allow the other party involved, to investigate the evidence. Brutal force does not work; propaganda might work in a dictatorial system, but not in a democratic system. We simply do not understand your approach, since we are not raised in a system were we are supposed to believe what we are told (especially not the Dutch). That the Chinese jet was at safe distance is hard to believe to me. You are comparing the maneuverability of a tugboat (USA plane) with a highly maneuverable speedboat (Chinese jet). If the plane was at safe distance there was enough reaction time to avoid an accident. The landing of a US military plane on a military base in China is not a big issue. The safety of human lives should always overrule political disagreements.

Third of all, my personal feeling is that China is harming their international relations by the approach they are taking. If the Olympics do not make it in 2008 to China it is because of issues as "no freedom of speech", the human rights issues and isolation in a more and more open world. Your statement about student protests says it all "So far, groups from more than 50 colleges around the country have requested official permission to demonstrate against the United States" That's the beauty of protesting!!! You do not ask permission. It is an expression of feelings and disagreement with the government, foreign government or situation. Demonstration rights is part of freedom.

I do not dislike China. I see it as a powerful nation, with great people, a rich culture but also as a country that has a hard time to grow into a more open, democratic environment.

Let the plane crew go and open a fair possibility to let the USA investigate this accident. Even return the plane.

My sympathy goes out to the wife of Wang Wei and her son. In all this political feather ruffling it is easy to oversee the true tragedy of a wife and a son that most likely have lost their husband and father at a way to early stage in life. God bless them, God bless China.

Well, as an American Chinese, I am angry with US government too. Obviously, they just use the news express to tell their lies. Even some American friends do not agree with the military game that happens all the time with other countries. It is obvious that US government regards China as a potential enemy. That is the new adminstration, full of Republicans.

Although I live in US, I am still with my country, China. I believe US do not only own China an apology, but also own too many people's lifes. Tell our leaders and people, all the American-Chinese are with them. Do not let those sick American take any adventages over us.

After a carful analysis of available information relative to the collision I have come to the conclusion that the fault lies with the Chinese fighter pilot who operateed his plane in a reckless, hotdog fashion. I have contacted my representatives in the House and Senate and expressed my desire to have them:

(1) Fight against China Olympics in 2008

(2) Revoke most privileged trade status

(3) Increase Military Aid to Taiwan

(4) Cancel political visits to China

(5) More closly regulate business dealings

My family intends to start a grass roots program that has as its theme: DONT BUY MADE IN CHINA

It seems CNN is basing its trade figures between China and the US on the US Census Bureau, which I think is suspicious.

Based on the Census Bureau of the US, the trades figures for 2000 with China are:

Export - US$16 billion

Import - US$100 billion.

Compare these with the trade figures for US - Singapore in 2000:

Export - US$17 billion

Import - US$19 billion.

Comparing the figures between the exports to China and Singapore, the US exports to China less by one billion dollars. Is this reasonable? I doubt it very much.

First of all, why are there american spy planes over critical terretory, right after there was a relationship-shaking incident, caused by spy-planes. Why are they even flying there? Are there russian spy-planes over maryland or japanese spy-planes over texas? Are there Chinese fighters over California or Iraqui bombers over Florida that every once in a while launch a little attack on the mainland? No. There are not. Why? Because the USA is the only country in the ENTIRE world that behaves like a "safety-belt-nation". Why? Because the Western World is, if not protected by pre-emptive strikes, threatened by the dangers of the terrorism that comes from the Arab World (apparently clinton gave military-information to china and china gave it to iran). But is not america the same threat if not a bigger one to the arab world even though we are under the impression that they are all terrorists and their leaders are communists or dictators and we are freeing them from their non-human governments? The US are working on an nuclear weapons defense shield in space. That proposition is a definite threat to all the enemies in the world that the US has and since they are all over the place to piss people off (that is al little drastic) they have many enemies, but that is what they have always been doing and, don't get me wrong, they are needed in certain cases. Those kinds of 'accident' can be dealt with propperly and they are no dangers, but with a president who does not have more sense for foreign policy than a hermit it is getting kind of critical.

USA, USA@USA.net
I have read through some of these posts and I see much hatred for the U.S. Chinese are accusing US media as making it sound like they are trying to convince the American people that China is at fault. That is a farse. The media in the US are the last people to try to convince people of something. They do not report what they feel is the best for the country. They do not try to brainwash the US citizens. They do not have the American military screening what they report to their citizens. (As the Chinese government does)

Yes they have reported that some of our top dogs are saying it was the Chinese who were at fault. They also report it was the US at fault according to China top dogs. All news (whatever news it is) gets reported. The citizens believe what they want. As far as the many posts that say lets bomb USA, lets shoot down their planes, DAMN USA. Well then, most of us would just assume stay out of everybody's business. But it's a fact that we are a world policeman, trying to stay one step ahead of countries that want power by any means. China people say you just want peace. Butting heads with the greatest military ever is not a good way to get that. You are very proud people and a war with China is the last thing USA wants. Heck, Somalia kicked our ass, remember. But if the worthless politicians stayed out of it and did not tie the military might, nobody could touch us. In closing, we all need to keep this in mind. China would not be China right now if were not for the USA. In 1940 ish, China was under the control of Japan. The Japanese were killing all of your people and using the rest for experiments. It was the USA who liberated your country and saved it. In my lifetime, I have never heard any appreciation for that. But I have seen many American flags being burned in China. Let's all scratch our heads now and ponder that.

You might know me by now. I am deeply concern the hanging-on standoff.

My view is to share some sentiment with America. Round up some softer-tone words so that America can backup and save the American face.

On the other hand, China also take a step back and accept some milder statements.

My view is that in a long run, both America and China are losers. I would say China might and probably lose a bit more. China needs America more than America needs China.

Dragging on one extra day now is hurting like one-year long talk to make up a good relationship.

This message is for America and China both.

I made my comments again. Now I like to hear your comments please. Thanks.

I believe that China has every right and obligation to protect and defend her sovereign borders, and that this duty certainly encompasses the interception of foreign aircraft believed to be infrigning on China's right to privacy and free enterprise. If China had sent aircraft to the coast of the Eastern United States to monitor shipbuilding in Virginia or costal defences in Florida, the United States certainly would have reacted in the same manner. The arrogence of the American military and government in the Pacific theatre is beyond reproach. American military bases dominate the region and impose American will on independant states while claiming to be acting in the interests of preserving peace and democracy. The only thing they represent is the dated American imperialistic mentality and a desire to preserve the existing world order, with a total lack of regard or respect for the most populous and one of the most vital and important countries in the world: China. The Americans should apologize, take back their airmen, and acknowledge that further spy missions on a soveriegn country would be met with similiar consequences.

The Center of the Problem is the Cultural Divide between China and the US.

The Chinese cannot understand why the Americans won't apologize; in China, apologizing is just a step in the process. It's polite, it's form, and it's protocol.

I've spent time in both China and Japan, and know well the rituals that must precede any meaningful conversation.

However, in America, an apology is an admission of guilt. In this instance, the Americans feel that the Chinese are at least partially responsible for this terrible tragedy. So, the Americans do not feel they are guilty, and so will not apologize.

It's amazing that in the 21st Century two great powers can't even figure out how to have a conversation with one another.
