China should know that it ILLEGAL to return an illegal plane to the U.S. China should not only investigage the plane but also dispose of it.
I cannot figure out why the Chinese should even think about returning the plane.
Let's get it straight: A robber breaks into a house and gets caught by the police, is it reasonable that the police release the robber and return him the criminal weaponry? NO WAY!!! It is especially the case in the U.S..

China should not bow to USA. They sent their spy plane to the border of China, half way round the world from their home base, to spy on China and created an accident. Besides their crippled plane landed on China's soil without permission. These are the faults on the part of USA. Yet they refused to apologize to china for their wrong doings. China had been bullied by foreign powers for centuries in the past, just because china was weak. Now that China is strong and is a recognized world's superpower, why should China show any weakness. Instead, China should show its strength and stand steadfastly against any foreign aggression.
On the flip side, if the accident occurred on the border of USA, the situation would be spark the third world war, in the worse scenerio. The least danage USA would do would be to shoot down the two Chinese jets.
China should not return the US plane and should not allow foreign spy planes near the China borders.

I read the article posted by mr.zhang from tsinghua university, he has all the points in it: the imperialist once bullied and got some kicks out of it, if you didnt take up your arms and fought it back, it would take it for granted and continue taking advantage of you. chinese people is well known for their tolerance, but the history also tells that if you are perceived to be weak and vulnerable, you are destined to bear and forbear all the humiliation and disgrace. america has been making the best of ideological differences to incite unrest and overthrow legitimate government in china. they cooked up all the stories to cover up the facts,then to fabricate a peace-loving country. it is not the first time we catch united states in the act. should we buy their intimidation and blackmail, no way!!!they are naive to think china is still too weak to rebuff them. yep, they think they have high stakes on the table, olympics, WTO entry and PNTR, maybe a lot more, so those nutty jerks in the congress raved and stomp their feet to call for sanctions against china, go ahead, if you think the policy of carrot and stick still work. we really dont mind. we beat you in korean war, and we trounced you along with your puppeted regime. we should not return the reconnaissance plane unless u.s. kowtow to us and plead with us. they must be disciplined and taught how to be a country with integrity and creditability. i am willing to devote myself to the just cause of hitting american imperialism at any time of need.

The return of the spy plane should based on US response to halting further spy operations, and only after the Chinese had a thorough investigation of the spying equipments.

Firstly, China should insist on US stopping spy flights before talk of returning plane can begin. If US refuses, China should make a detailed video of all the equipment on the EP-3, all radar record of its flight path during the "accident", and other relevant records of past US spy flights, and present an undeniable case to the UN, in order to mobilize world opinion against the arrogant & militant posture of the US regime under Bush. The "superpower" cannot be allowed to continually put out lies to the rest of the multi-polar world.

The whole situation stands at this, why should china give back the spy plane when all it will do is return to china and reveal its secrets. China should not stand for another country flying into its airspace unauthorised, otherwise we will soon see all the dodgy nations of our world following suit.
America should also stay out of the Taiwan/China problems, because if they do, they will most probably cause World War Three, as china has always stated that Taiwan is a rebel state. There is absolutly nothing that America can do because China posses more than enough power to flatten the whole world with a few nukes, and I beleive the Chinese goverment are capable of launching the nukes if it is required.

The USA must stop immidiatly our spy-operation near china coast. EP3 mean that USA is not so invincible; the US plane stay in the territory of People's republic of China, it must stay there!

I think China do not need to return the US plane and US also shall stop sending spy planes on frequent reconnaissance flights close to China's coast. This time China lost a pilot and one plane, but what about next time. Such issue China and US both want to happen again. However, I think it is depend on US. About the US plane which is for spy purpose, I also think it should be investigated by Chinese due to it may having some information that belong to China. Another reason for that is it is an information to the US, do not make the same mistake in the future.
