| "The Social Network," the film about the founding of Facebook, was the top winner Friday at the Critics' Choice Awards, taking home the award for best film, Reuters reported. The movie also earned a best director trophy for David Fincher and adapted screenplay for writer Aaron Sorkin, among others. Colin Firth was named best actor for his role as stammering King George VI in "The King's Speech," which also claimed best original screenplay. Natalie Portman took home the trophy for best actress portraying a young ballerina in "The Black Swan." The night's other big winner was "The Fighter," which earned awards for best ensemble performance for its cast, best supporting actress and best supporting actor. The Critics Choice honors are given out by the Broadcast Film Critics Association. |

| Railway police in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, have busted five gangs for producing and selling fake ID cards for ticket scalping just ahead of the Spring Festival travel season, Xinhua reported. They arrested more than 10 suspects and seized more than 11,000 fake ID cards. Some provinces, including Guangdong, are participating in a trial ticketing system that requires buyers to show ID when purchasing a ticket. |

| Wang Daojiang and Wang Ruzhen have been sentenced to life and 13 years in prison, respectively, in Hubei Province for killing their son's wife, Chutian Golden Post reported. The Wangs tied up their daughter-in-law in July 2009 and forced her to drink highly toxic pesticide. They then abandoned her by the road. She died the next day on the way to the hospital. The parents said their daughter-in-law was having an affair. |

| Voting has ended in Sudan in the south's historic independence referendum on Jan. 15, with a large turnout for the week-long poll, BBC reported. The vote is widely expected to see the south choose overwhelmingly for separation from the north. Official results of the vote – which was largely peaceful – are not expected until early next month. |
