Dunhuang Documents and Complete Collection of Dunhuang Manuscripts
Dunhuang documents, now commonly known as "Dunhuang literature", refer to written scrolls, manuscripts, printed materials, and rubbings discovered in the Library Cave at the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang in 1900, dating from the 4th to the 11th centuries. According to the latest statistics from the Dunhuang Literature Research Institute under the Dunhuang Academy, over 70,000 pieces of Dunhuang literature are currently held in nearly 100 public and private collections across countries such as China, the UK, France, Russia, and Japan.
The year 2023 saw the official commencement of the publication of the full-color Complete Collection of Dunhuang Literature. This high-quality edition emphasizes both the literary value of the documents and their value as historical relics, incorporating academic achievements over the past century regarding naming, collation, and more. The compilation aims to restore the original form of Dunhuang literature to the greatest extent possible. As of April 2025, Dunhuang Manuscripts in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (Vol.1-110), Dunhuang Manuscripts Preserved in Gansu (Vol.1-30), Dunhuang Manuscripts Preserved in Chongqing (Vol.1-3), and Dunhuang Manuscripts Preserved in the National Library of China (Vol.1-80) have been officially published, while the publication of other volumes is also progressing. As a comprehensive compilation of Dunhuang literature, the Complete Collection of Dunhuang Literature is sure to promote the advancement of Dunhuang studies as a significant academic field worldwide.
敦煌遺書與《敦煌文獻全集》
敦煌遺書,現在多稱為“敦煌文獻”,是指1900年在中國敦煌莫高窟藏經洞發現的公元4—11世紀的寫卷、寫本、印本和拓片等文獻資料。據敦煌研究院敦煌文獻研究所最新統計,現存敦煌文獻總計7萬余件,分藏于中、英、法、俄、日等國的近百家公私收藏機構和個人手中。2023年,全彩印《敦煌文獻全集》出版工作啟動。本次高清彩印,兼重文獻價值和文物價值,不僅吸納百余年間在定名、綴合等方面的學術成果,而且在編排上最大限度還原敦煌文獻的原始形態。截至2025年4月,《法國國家圖書館藏敦煌文獻》(第1—110冊)、《甘肅藏敦煌文獻》(第1—30冊)、《重慶藏敦煌文獻》(第1—3冊)、《中國國家圖書館藏敦煌文獻》(第1—80冊)已正式出版,其他各卷出版工作也在陸續推進中。《敦煌文獻全集》作為對敦煌文獻的全面匯編,必將推動世界性顯學敦煌學向前發展。
