Respect Diversity of Civilizations
The principle of respecting the diversity of world civilizations is deeply rooted in Chinese civilization. Chinese culture values harmony, while Chinese civilization emphasizes "harmony without uniformity" and respect for diversity and differ- ences. Harmony is essential for the birth and growth of things. Only by harmonizing and integrating different things can we kindle booming new things. Harmony can only be achieved by maintaining differences rather than setting them aside.
Chinese culture values harmonious coexistence, and Chinese people do not consider conflict between countries inevitable. "Civilizations only vary from each other, and no civilization is superior to others," said President Xi Jinping. Based on the principles of respecting diversity and accommodating differences, China works with all countries based on equality and mutual respect to jointly safeguard world peace and stability and promote the progress of human civilization.

尊重世界文明多樣性的理念深深植根于中華文明的精神譜系之中。中國文化注重以和為貴，中華文明強調追求多樣性的和諧，強調以和合的精神尊重容納多樣性與差異性。“和”是事物生成變化的必要條件，不同事物間調和、融合才能生成繁盛的、新的事物。“和諧”并不要求抹平差異性，而是堅持和而不同。
正是由于強調和諧和合的文化精神，中國人并不以沖突的眼光來看待國家間關系。習近平指出：“不同國家、民族的思想文化各有千秋，只有姹紫嫣紅之別，而無高低優劣之分。”中國本著尊重多元、包容差異、兼容并包的原則，在平等相待與相互尊重的基礎上與各國打交道，共同維護世界和平穩定，促進人類文明進步。
