Jade Go Chess Pieces
The flat circular Go pieces include 180 made of green jade and
185 made of white jade. With smooth and lustrous appearance and exquisite craftsmanship, they are respectively contained in black lacquer boxes painted with gold and intertwining lotus patterns.
One of the oldest board games in China, Go, commonly known in China as weiqi, was already popular as early as the Spring and Autumn Period. In its early days, the game used wooden pieces, and stone pieces emerged during the Han Dynasty, followed by porcelain in the Sui Dynasty and jade in the Tang Dynasty.
From the Tang and Song dynasties to the Ming and Qing times, Go was popular among the literati as both a competitive game and a way of socializing. With a board composed of intersected lines as the "battlefield", the two players "fight" with their wits. To win, the player must use black or white pieces to surround more territory than the opponent. The players don't need verbal communication throughout the game, but use the pieces in their hands to communicate logical strategies. For this reason, Go is also called "hand talk".
With the introduction of Go to the Korean Peninsula, Japan, and other places, the game won recognition from more and more people around the world thanks to the cultural values of big-picture thinking, inclusiveness, and unity it conveys.
青玉、白玉圍棋子
玉圍棋子分青玉、白玉雙色，呈扁圓形，其中青玉棋子180枚、白玉棋子185枚，質(zhì)地光潔，做工精良，分別盛放于黑漆描金的棋盒內(nèi)，盒繪纏枝蓮紋。
作為中國古老的棋類游戲之一，圍棋對局在春秋時(shí)期已較為普遍。早期圍棋多為木質(zhì)，漢時(shí)出現(xiàn)了石質(zhì)圍棋，隋代則有瓷質(zhì)圍棋，玉質(zhì)圍棋則最早見于唐代。
唐宋到明清，圍棋廣泛流行于文人雅士之間，既是一種競技游戲，也是重要的社交方式。棋盤是雙方博弈的“戰(zhàn)場”?？v橫兩組平行線垂直交叉的“陣地”上，對弈者你攻我守，各顯神通。一局終了，根據(jù)棋子圍成的空位與子數(shù)相加，多者為勝。對局全程不用言語交流，但憑手執(zhí)棋子斗智斗勇，因此圍棋又得名“手談”。
隨著圍棋傳入朝鮮半島、日本等地，越來越多的外國友人接受并認(rèn)同了圍棋。其所蘊(yùn)含的布局謀篇、包容統(tǒng)一的文化精神，也為世界認(rèn)知并理解。
