Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), met a senior Chinese official Friday to discuss bilateral ties and the two countries' traditional friendship.

Li Jianguo, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and vice-chairman and secretary-general of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, conveyed to Kim the best regards from general secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping.

Li said the CPC and the Chinese government viewed China-DPRK ties from a strategic and long-term perspective, and they were ready to work jointly with the DPRK to push their friendly relations and cooperation to a higher stage.

"We are willing to promote closer high-level exchanges and maintain strategic communication between the two parties, expand mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and enhance communication and coordination on major global and regional affairs so as to jointly promote peace and stability in Northeast Asia," Li said.

Kim, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and first chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK, said the DPRK attached great importance to DPRK-China relations.

He said the WPK, together with the new leadership of the CPC Central Committee, would unswervingly strive to consolidate and promote the DPRK-China friendship and cooperation.

During their talks, they also exchanged views on issues of common concern.

A CPC delegation headed by Li arrived here Thursday at the invitation of the WPK.

During the visit, Li also met Kim Ki Nam, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the WPK Central Committee. They exchanged views on ways to promote bilateral ties and reached broad consensus.
