Friday is the International Day for Biodiversity. In Beijing, a group of biological experts and conservationists have gathered to discuss ways to protect China's biological diversity. Their goal is to raise public awareness and get people involved.

Three documentaries showcase biodiversity in China.

The country is known for its abundant resources.

But biological experts point out China is rapidly losing its biological diversity to aggressive economic development and consumerism.

The bleak reality is that some 27 percent of all species are in danger of extinction.

John Mackinnon, team leader of Visibility & Awareness Component, ECBP, said, "We call the film 'China at the crossroads'. China reaches the point where traditionally it relied a lot on these services, but it seems to be choosing what look like economically better paths. But we don't think they are. China must make some hard decisions now if you really want to live in harmony with nature. And if it doesn't, there's the big problem of climate change and biodiversity loss."

Conservationists are also calling for changes in public attitude and behavior.
