1. Tour of Mount Huangshan can take one to three days. If you want to deeply explore the mountain, one of the top 10 tourist attractions in China, you'd better arrange to have two or three days in the area. This way, you'll be able to enjoy the awe-inspiring sunrise and sunset to the max.

2. The weather changes frequently up on the mountain, so remember to bring a raincoat. You can also buy one there, but it will obviously come at a higher price. Don't use an umbrella, especially not during a thunderstorm.

3. Rainfall can be sudden up Mount Huangshan, but seldom persists for more than half a day. Never get upset about the rainy weather because chances are you'll witness a magnificent rainbow stretching out across the area. And the sea of clouds, waterfalls and the sunset glow appear even more spectacular after the rain.

4. Travel light when scaling the mountain so that you'll have more strength to actually climb it.

5. Don't ascend the high peaks during a thunderstorm, especially the Celestial Capital Peak and the Lotus Peak. Also, do not hold onto the iron chains along the path or hide under the trees to avoid getting struck by lightning.

6. Morning and evening temperatures are low on the mountain, so make sure to bring warm clothing.

7. You can take a mountain hiking stick with you.

9. Mind your position when posing for pictures to avoid any accidents.

10. Don't swim in pools like the Emerald Pool and the Five Dragon Pool because the water can be unbearably cold in summer.

14. High blood pressure and heart disease sufferers should take medication with them. They are advised not to climb by themselves and better take the cableways.

15. Book a hotel in advance and plan your hiking route beforehand.

16. During high seasons such as the May Day and the National Day holidays, it may take you quite a while waiting in line for the cable car.

17. Never try to venture out into the area’s undeveloped areas.
