Kai-Fu Lee is considered to be one of the most prominent figures in the Chinese internet sector. Born in Taiwan, Lee immigrated to the United States in 1973. Ten years later, he graduated from Columbia University, earning a B.S. degree in computer science. In 1988, he went on to earn a Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. From 1990 to 1996, Lee worked at Apple Computer as a research and development executive. In 1998, he moved to Microsoft and came to Beijing where he played a key role in establishing the city's Microsoft Research division. In July 2005, he transferred to Google and became the founder of Google China. In 2009, he established a fund called "Innovation Works" which aims to create Chinese start-ups in the internet and mobile internet sectors.
