Their most commonly shared characteristics are stealth, supersonic cruise speed, superb maneuverability and superior avionics for both battle awareness and effectiveness. The U.S. Air Force's F-22 Raptor, which entered service in 2005, is the only fully-operational fifth-generation jet fighter.
