China leads among large developing countries as the 27th most competitive country in the world overall, according to the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report 2010-2011 released Thursday. It was ranked 29th last year. Switzerland again topped the overall rankings, while the U.S. fell to fourth place after ceding the top spot last year. Sweden placed second and Singapore was third. Germany, Japan, Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Canada round out the top 10.
The competitiveness rankings are based on the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI), developed for the World Economic Forum by Sala-i-Martin in 2004. The GCI is based on 12 pillars of competitiveness, providing a comprehensive picture of the competitiveness landscape in countries around the world at all stages of development. The pillars are: institutions, infrastructure, macroeconomic environment, health and primary education, higher education and training, goods market efficiency, labor market efficiency, financial market development, technological readiness, market size, business sophistication, and innovation. |
據世界經濟論壇周四發布的《2010-2011年全球競爭力報告》，在大型發展中經濟體中，中國繼續領先，今年的排名又上升了兩位，由去年的29名上升至第27名。瑞士在今年繼續獨占鰲頭，而美國在去年失去頭把交椅之后，今年又被瑞典(第2位)和新加坡(第3位)超越，排名下降至第4位。排名第5至第10的國家分別是德國、日本、芬蘭、荷蘭、丹麥和加拿大。
《全球競爭力報告》的競爭力排行榜以全球競爭力指數為基礎，由薩拉?伊?馬丁教授為世界經濟論壇編制并于2004年引入，而全球競爭力指數又以12個主要競爭力因素為基礎，全面地反映了處于不同發展階段的世界各國的競爭力狀況。這些因素包括機構、基礎設施、宏觀經濟環境、健康與初等教育、高等教育和培訓、商品市場效率、勞動力市場效率、金融市場發展、技術就緒度、市場規模、商業成熟度和創新。 |

| China's Ministry of Health is planning a nationwide measles vaccination campaign September 11-20. Vaccines will be free to around 100 million children under 14 years' old, the Beijing News reported. Immunization is optional and parents can take the children to an appointed hospital to get the injection. Children vaccinated will have to remain in the hospital for at least half an hour as a precaution against allergic reactions. China plans to eradicate measles by 2012. |
據《新京報》報道，中國衛生部將在本月11至20日開展全國范圍內的麻疹疫苗接種工作，1億名14歲以下兒童將免費接種。本次接種采用自愿原則，家長可以主動帶孩子去定點醫院接種。兒童在麻疹疫苗接種完成以后，必須要在現場留觀半個小時，防止過敏現象發生。我國計劃在2012年完全消滅麻疹傳染病。 |

山東省三人被蜱蟲叮咬致死 |
Three people in Penglai, Shandong Province, died in July after being bitten by deer ticks, the Chongqing Evening News reported. The incidences coincide with an epidemic in adjacent Henan Province, where 18 people so far have died after being bitten by the bugs. The victims all exhibited signs of organ failure before death. Henan health authorities, who earlier said the deaths were caused by a virus, have also said the victims died of anaplasmosis, a disease caused by a bacteria that is usually transmitted to humans through ticks.
People with anaplasmosis usually live in Henan, Guangdong and Guangxi provinces. This year, Henan, Shandong and Hubei have reported cases. The deer tick is an eight-legged insect no bigger than a sesame seed that is best removed from the body with tweezers.

患病人群主要分布在河南及兩廣地區。今年為止，河南、山東和湖北都出現了病例。蜱蟲是一種八足蟲，大小和芝麻相當。如發現蜱蟲叮咬，強烈建議立即用鑷子將其除去。 |

| Three masked gunmen stormed into an E-Mart in Shanghai's Minhang District last night around 8:30 and headed for the jewelry counters, breaking glass shelves with the butts of their shotguns, the Shanghai Morning Post reported. Witnesses said that they grabbed a bunch of gold bars after slinging homemade explosives before racing out the store. Police are now looking for the suspects. |

| A woman with the username Zhaotingjingmei and her husband fought over Twitter yesterday after the woman discovered her husband in bed with another woman, the Yangtze Evening Post reported. The woman, a painter, became so furious, she revealed the affair with a Twitter post and live-tweeted the fight between her, her husband and his mistress. Her husband also posted his responses on his own Twitter account. |
