Garbage Website ventures out into the real world
Adjust font size:

Sluggish business is forcing the country's first recycling network platform out of the cyber space to set up real community outlets after more than six-month operation.

The recycling network in Jinqiao, Pudong New Area, plans to set up 100 stores in local communities, schools and office buildings to attract more clients and facilitate the transportation of trash, according to the operators.

The Website, called the Pudong Recyclable Resource Public Service Platform, was launched at the end of last year to help put illegal trash collectors out of business by matching waste producers with authorized waste disposal companies online.

Hundreds of standard waste disposal companies have become members but fewer waste producers, both businesses and families, have registered or used the free services.

"Many people still have no idea of the Website," said Zhao Junyi, the business supervisor of the Chinese language platform.

The platform received a slight increase in registrations after promotion activities and media exposure but the attention doesn't last long.

The Website has decided to open 100 shops in communities, schools and office buildings as a long-term advertisement and to facilitate residents with the service, as well.

The stores, yet to be exactly located, will be established in September, officials said.

The platform may cooperate with existing recycling store in communities to save the cost.

Users, both businesses and families, can access the service by visiting Pd3r.com or calling 400-880-3828.

Authorized logistics and garbage collection companies can bid free to provide waste disposal services to the members of the platform.

If successful, they will be charged to handle the refuse, which includes paper, plastics, metals and hazardous wastes such as acids.
