'Paradise' helps white swans survive the winter
Adjust font size:

Located in western Henan Province, the Sanmenxia Dam area has witnessed rare, continuously snowy weather since winter began last year, www.dahe.con reported on February 21. With the sharp drops in temperature, the area containing the Yellow River wetlands has been inundated with snow and ice, causing great difficulties for migratory white swans seeking food and survival there this winter.

After raising funds the Pinglu county government purchased 15,000 kilograms of corn and wheat, then scattered the grain around an aquatic area that had thawed out, located on the north bank of the Yellow River. The clever white swans quickly surmised what the people were doing for them. Everyday they fly to their "Garden of Eden to feast on the dropped grain."

In return tourists are now stopping to gaze and photograph the beautiful white swans.
