Prof. Yi Yanghua, director of Marine Pharmaceutical Research Center of the Second Military Medical Institute and other research personnel with the help of Shanghai Pharmaceutical Institution of the CAS and though the sieving testing of the State New Medicine Sieving Center recently have for the first time succeeded in separating out new natural chemical elements from the marine living beings. It is discovered that the new ingredients can resist the SARS viruses and protect the infected body cells.
The sifted report says, with the SARS-infected cells to be respectively added in with differently diluted samples of the elements they are to be compared by viruses, cells and samples. To observe the experimental result everyday under microscope, take down the CPE and with the neutral red-dye to determine the ratio of photo-density, and in comparison with the sample to calculate and assess its active effect against the SARS viruses. Through repeated testing and examination it is discovered that the element indicates its effect, of resistance to the SARS viruses, and of protection for the infected cells when it is in 4ug/ml potency.
As learned, China is abounding with this sort of marine living beings and it offers a very bright vista for application and development. For the moment, the result has been submitted to the state in application for the invention patent rights and is expected to develop some new medicine against the severe acute respiratory syndrome.
