New Standards for Tourist Signs of Yangtze River Delta
Adjust font size:

Foreign visitors to eastern China's Yangtze River Delta will soon find a new convenience -- revamped tourist traffic signs for the area.

Shanghai Youth Daily reported on Wednesday the new standards for the signs have been approved by the governments of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces as well as Shanghai city, which comprise the delta.

New graphic symbols will be put in use indicating seven different types of tourist spots: temples, science museums, golf courses, ancient towns, landscape, farm tourism and wetlands.

Tourist signs for sites with historical, cultural and scientific values will also be set up along highways for tourists using cars.

The tourist traffic signs will go with the signs pointing out nearby parking lots, to avoid traffic jams around the tourist sites.

With the 2010 Shanghai World Expo approaching, the Yangtze River Delta is awaiting travelers from all over the world.

However, today's tourist traffic signs in the area have numerous problems, some even using "pinyin," Romanized Chinese, instead of English.
