China Opens First Lunar Probe Engineering Center
China opened its first lunar probe engineering center in Beijing on Monday to facilitate work on a lunar probe mission scheduled for 2007 at the latest.
Tibet Funds Earmarked on 40th Anniversary
The central government has allocated US$773 million for infrastructure construction in Tibet on the region's fortieth anniversary this year, its chairman said while attending the central conference on the work of ethnic affairs in Beijing last week.
Qinghai-Tibet Railway to Start Trial Operation
Workers will finish laying the tracks for the Qinghai-Tibet Railway by the end of this year and trial operation will begin July 1, 2006, said Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun Tuesday.

Oil Companies Ink Landmark S. China Sea Agreement
Oil companies of China, the Philippines and Vietnam signed a landmark agreement in Manila on Monday to conduct a US$15-million joint seismic survey of oil potential in the South China Sea. Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo described the agreement as a historic breakthrough in developing an area that has been a source of territorial conflict into a source of energy.
Hainan Mulls Bridge/ Tunnel Link to Mainland
China's southernmost province of Hainan is studying a feasibility report to build a gigantic bridge or undersea tunnel spanning the Qiongzhou Straits and linking Guangdong with Hainan.
Railroad Building to Gear Up in 2005
China plans unprecedented railroad construction in 2005 and will invest more than 100 billion yuan (US$12.05 billion) in 58 new projects and 48 extended projects, according to sources at a seminar on railway network construction hosted last Sunday by the National Development and Reform Commission.
Top Ten Investment Projects in 2004
In 2004, China witnessed the launch, construction and initial operation of many major investment projects. In late December, China Investment published its list of the nation's top ten projects for the year. The list is heavily weighted toward the energy sector, with projects ranging from oil and gas pipelines to nuclear power generation and coal gasification plants.
Expansion for National Library
China started the second phase of construction of its National Library in Beijing Tuesday, which will make the library the third largest in the world.
Olympic Construction Resumes in Capital
The Beijing Olympics' organizing committee announced Tuesday that the building of the National Stadium, a showpiece of the 2008 games, has recommenced. Work on the 'bird's nest' shaped venue had started in December 2003, but was suspended in July.
