China's Procurator-General Cao Jianming delivered a report on the work of the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Friday at the Fourth Session of the 11th National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

Followings are the highlights of Cao's report, the text of which was distributed before a meeting of the session in the Great Hall of the People.

WHAT'S BEEN DONE IN 2010

-- Approved the arrest of 37,532 suspects and prosecuted 50,775 suspects on crimes that undermine the order of the socialist market economy, an increase of 4.6 percent and 19.5 percent respectively over the previous year.

-- Urged administrative law-enforcement authorities to transfer suspects in 3,448 cases of severe economic crimes, including illegal fundraising, financial fraud, and pyramid selling.

-- Prosecuted 5,642 suspects for infringement of intellectual property rights or producing and selling counterfeit products, an increase of 14.1 percent year on year.

-- Investigated 10,533 cases of commercial bribery involving government employees in real estate development, property rights transaction, and medicine deals.

-- Investigated 8,584 cases of work-related crimes in civil engineering projects and another 1,248 such cases in land and resources development.

-- Approved the arrest of 916, 209 criminal suspects, a drop of 2.6 percent year on year, and prosecuted 1,148,409 people, an increase of 1.2 percent year on year.

-- Dropped arrests of 64,195 suspects, an increase of 20.7 year on year; and dropped prosecution of 29,898 suspects, an increase of 16.9 percent year on year.

-- Dropped arrests of 13,080 and persecution of 3,114 minor suspects, an increase of 10.1 percent and 1.8 percent year on year respectively.

-- Investigated 44,085 people, an increase of 6.1 percent year on year, in 32,909 work-related crime cases, an increase of 1.4 percent over the previous year. Among the total, there were 18,224 major embezzlement and bribery cases.

-- Investigated 2,723 officials at the county level and above, including 188 at the prefecture level and six at the provincial and ministerial levels.

-- Investigated 3,969 suspects of bribery, a year-on-year increase of 24.3 percent, and arrested 1,282 fugitives with work-related crimes.

-- Investigated 10,227 people suspected of malfeasance and infringement of people's rights, a year-on-year increase of 9.3 percent.

-- Investigated 2,721 judiciary workers suspected of graft and malpractice for personal gains, among other crimes.

-- Investigated 524 government employees suspected of misusing their power for illegal detainment, revenge or sabotage of elections.

-- Investigated 1,037 government employees with suspected abuse of power that was related to serious accidents like fires and mine accidents.

-- Prosecuted 4,422 suspects for involvement in woman and child abduction and trafficking.

-- Investigated 267 prosecutors for acts of breach of discipline or the law, and brought criminal charges against 38 of them.

-- Abolished 63 pieces of out-of-date judicial interpretation documents.

WHAT'S TO BE DONE IN 2011

-- Facilitate development with a scientific outlook and transformation of the economic growth pattern by giving full play to the role of procuratorate organs in the crackdown upon and prevention of crimes.

-- Maintain social harmony and stability through lawful crackdown on crimes, and improve social management to resolve problems at the root.

-- Continue to severely crackdown on the corruption of government officials and commercial bribery crimes.

-- Intensify efforts to crack crimes, including gang crimes, robbery, adduction and trafficking of women and children, illegal fundraising, and production and selling of counterfeit products.

-- Enhance supervision over extortion for confessions, improperly light or heavy penalties, and malfeasance in litigation, and crackdown on bullying in prison.

-- Uphold the principle of severe crackdown on any violation of law or discipline by prosecutors.
