"Golden Vajrabhairava," one of Mei Hua's most complex devotional works, on display at NUO Hotel Art Space, Beijing, July 14, 2025. According to the artist, every line and ornament — some less than half a millimeter wide — is executed not for display but for reverence. In her carving, anger is not rage — it is pure clarity cutting through illusion, referencing the deity's role in Tibetan Buddhism as both destroyer and protector. Inspired by Ming court statuary and realized through modern gem-setting, the piece represents the union of cultural legacy and personal mastery. Form is not fixed — it is the vessel through which spirit flows. [Photo by Liu Ziying/China.org.cn]
