Malaysia will take part in the 15th Western China International Fair, which will take place this October. This year's Malaysian exhibition will focus on the country's service concept and its advantages in several industries.

"We want to update Chinese companies about the kinds of opportunities they could have in Malaysia through the fair, in order to attract Chinese investment to Malaysia," said Syed Mohamad Fairus, director of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation's Chengdu office. Syed also told China.org.cn that his company wants to promote Malaysia not only in Sichuan Province where the fair would be held, but also throughout western China.

China.org.cn: Malaysia attracts many Chinese tourists with its cuisine and beautiful scenery. We know that Malaysia has been promoting medical tourism. Is Malaysia seeking Chinese cooperation in this field?

Syed: Reasonable price and modernized facilities make Malaysia a famous "medical tourism" destination. Relevant medical organizations from Malaysia will take part in the fair this year.

China.org.cn: Besides "medical tourism," are there any other industries that will participate in this fair? How many Malaysian companies will be at the fair?

Syed: According to our plan, 25 companies will join the fair. They are from industries including beverage manufacturing, medical treatment and rehabilitation, as well as fashion.

We hope that the Malaysian companies can establish contacts and partnerships with local companies in Sichuan Province through this fair. In addition, we want to show the industries that we've done well, in order to intrigue Chinese companies. We hope they can invest in Malaysia, which is consistent with the Chinese government encouraging Chinese companies to invest abroad.

What's more, we hope that, through this fair, more Malaysian companies will learn more about the investment environment in Sichuan and western China. China and Malaysia have agreed to increase their bilateral trade volume to US$160 billion. Meanwhile, this year marks the 14th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China. We want to further promote the long-term friendly cooperation between the two countries through this fair.

China.org.cn: Would you like to talk about the pragmatic results of the cooperation between Malaysian companies and local companies in Sichuan?

Syed: In 2012, Malaysian companies signed deals worth 340 million yuan with Chinese companies at the fair. In 2013, the figure reached 440 million yuan. We hope that the figure will reach 500 million yuan this year.
