DAMASCUS, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa on Monday outlined his vision for governance, aiming to build a "new Syria" anchored in justice, national unity, and renewed regional engagement.
His address marked the first anniversary of what the interim authorities describe as the country's "liberation," which led to the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's government.
"We announce a historic break with past legacies ... toward a new dawn based on justice, compassion, citizenship and coexistence," he said during a ceremony at the Conference Palace in Damascus.
Al-Sharaa highlighted that the current phase requires a shift from political change to institution-building. "The end of our battle was only the beginning of a new one in the fields of work and diligence, comparing words with deeds and values with practice."
He added that the interim authorities had toured provinces to listen to local concerns and accordingly prepared what he called a comprehensive vision for rebuilding state institutions and improving public services.
On foreign policy, al-Sharaa emphasized efforts to present the country's vision internationally through renewed diplomatic outreach.
"We welcomed delegations and visited countries, and Syrian diplomacy contributed to a radical change in the external image of Syria, making it a trusted partner for regional and international states," he said.
On the economy, al-Sharaa said Syria had established "strategic partnerships with friendly countries" in key sectors including energy, ports, airports, real estate and telecommunications, adding that these efforts were intended to support economic recovery, open investment channels, and create jobs.
He also said economic policies were adjusted to "gradually raise income levels, reduce hardship and establish a more stable and fair living environment."
Al-Sharaa added that military forces had been integrated into "a unified national army based on professionalism and loyalty to the homeland," which he said contributed to strengthening security and stability nationwide. Enditem
