BUCHAREST, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Ciprian Ciucu of Romania's National Liberal Party won partial elections for Bucharest's General Mayor on Sunday, securing the capital's top office.
According to real-time data from Romania's Permanent Electoral Authority, Ciucu received 36.16 percent of the vote after all 1,289 polling stations were fully counted.
More than 589,000 Bucharest residents cast their ballots, representing a turnout of 32.71 percent of registered voters.
Ciucu entered politics in 2000 and later transitioned into local administration, initially serving as a local councillor. He has been the mayor of Bucharest's Sector 6 since 2020.
The mayoral seat became vacant in May after former mayor Nicusor Dan was elected president. Ciucu will complete his term, which runs until 2028. Enditem
