BERLIN, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Germany has resumed airdropping humanitarian aid into Gaza to support the civilian population, the country's defence ministry and federal foreign office announced on Friday.
According to a joint statement issued by the two ministries, two German Air Force flights dropped 34 pallets, totaling nearly 14 tons of food and medical supplies.
Following a security cabinet meeting earlier this week, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius instructed the air force to begin the aid flights as soon as possible.
Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who is now visiting Israel, stated Friday that airdrops are an "additional way" to deliver aid but cannot replace land routes, which are essential for delivering sufficient volumes.
Wadephul urged the Israeli government to allow safe access for UN and international relief organisations and ensure safe distribution of humanitarian aid.
According to Germany's federal foreign office, the country's previous participation in humanitarian aid to Gaza took place from 13 to 31 March 2024, as part of the Jordanian initiative Solidarity Path Operation. Enditem
