MINSK, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Xinhua News Agency held a photo exhibition in Minsk Thursday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The event, titled "Shoulder to Shoulder -- Towards Common Victory," attracted over 300 guests from political, military, academic, media circles and public organizations in Belarus.
The exhibition displayed photographs that depict the heroic struggle of the Chinese people against Japanese aggression, the touching story of the joint fight against fascism by Soviet volunteer pilots and the Chinese people, and the deep friendship forged in the world anti-fascist war.
Sergey Lukashevich, Belarusian first deputy minister of foreign affairs, said the content-rich and informative exhibition offered an authentic representation of history and the shared past, helping the audience better understand the history of World War II (WWII).
Both countries advocate for the preservation of historical memory, which is crucial today as defending the true history is significant to fostering a civilized society with sound values, he said.
Emphasizing the significance of the 80th anniversary, Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan told reporters that both China and the Soviet Union were major theaters in Asia and Europe during WWII, contributing decisively to the victory over Japanese militarism and Nazism.
The photos recreated the epic story of the Chinese people's united resistance to Japanese aggressors and the true friendship between China and the Soviet Union consolidated during the war, he said.
After 80 years, China and Belarus remain committed to preserving historical memory, jointly pursuing development and prosperity, and safeguarding global fairness and justice to strive for a brighter future for humanity, he added.
The exhibit was co-organized by the Minsk Bureau of Xinhua News Agency and the China Image Group, with support from the Chinese Embassy in Belarus. Enditem
