BERLIN, July 31 (Xinhua) -- German Foreign Minister Wadephul on Thursday urged Israel to remedy the disastrous situation in the Gaza Strip, noting that the most recent United Nations (UN) conference in New York showed that "Israel is increasingly finding itself in a minority position."
Speaking ahead of his visit to Israel, Wadephul stressed that the dying and suffering in the Gaza Strip has reached "unfathomable dimensions."
His trip follows a decision by the German government's security cabinet, which convened earlier this week to deliberate on the deteriorating situation in the region.
After the security cabinet's meeting, Germany started to provide airdrops of supplies for people in Gaza.
Wadephul also urged the Israeli government to allow the UN and international relief organizations safe access, and to ensure safe and effective distribution. Enditem
