VIENTIANE, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Laos has officially launched its Digital Citizen Management and Identity Card System, believed to be a major milestone in the country's digital transformation journey.
The launch ceremony was held in Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday, with senior officials and representatives from relevant agencies in attendance, Lao national TV reported on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamfong said the system would be implemented uniformly across all levels, from central to local government.
The system would enhance national capacity in governance, security, and socio-economic development, he said.
In his speech, Lao Deputy Minister of Public Security Khamking Phuilamanyvong underscored the system's importance for national defense, public security, and economic growth. Enditem
