BANGKOK, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) on Wednesday imposed a temporary nationwide ban on all drone operations, citing national security concerns amid tensions along the border with Cambodia.
The measure aims to prevent drone interference with security forces' operations and will be in effect from July 30 to Aug. 15, or until further notice, the CAAT said in a statement.
This prohibition is a necessary step to mitigate risks to national security and public safety arising from the situation at the border, said Manat Chavanaprayoon, director general of the CAAT.
Manat said violators will be subject to legal penalties, including fines or imprisonment.
He added that military personnel are authorized to destroy any unmanned aircraft deemed a threat to national security. Enditem
