ANKARA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police detained 39 suspects accused of involvement with the Islamic State (IS) over the past two weeks across the country, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Monday.
The coordinated counter-terrorism operations were conducted across 18 provinces, including Adana, Bursa, Hatay, Istanbul, and Samsun, Yerlikaya said on the social media platform X.
The suspects were accused of "providing finance to so-called aid organizations affiliated with the terrorist organization and making terrorist organization propaganda through social media accounts," he said.
During the operations, a large number of organizational documents and digital materials were seized, he added.
Türkiye designated IS a terrorist organization in 2013, blaming it for a series of deadly attacks in the country. Since then, it has carried out counter-terrorism operations both domestically and abroad to crack down on its members and activities. Enditem
