KABUL, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics police have uncovered 61 kg of methamphetamine, or ice, in western Afghanistan's Nimroz province, the Office of the Deputy Minister of Interior for Counter-Narcotics said in a statement on Wednesday.
The contraband was seized during a series of discovery operations conducted by counter-narcotics personnel in the province's Kang district, said the statement, adding that two individuals were arrested in connection with the case and their dossier referred to the judiciary for further investigation and possible legal process.
In February, the units of counter-narcotics police discovered 102 kg of methamphetamine in eastern Nangarhar province.
The Afghan authorities have intensified their efforts to fight illegal drugs and related offenses. Security personnel have arrested 18 people on charges of drug sales and purchases in Kunduz, Bamiyan, Uruzgan, Paktia, and Khost provinces, the Ministry of Interior said in a separate statement.
