Albania's new Prime Minister Edi Rama of Socialist government presented late Wednesday a government program for the 2013-2017 term, pledging to take adequate measures to lower the public debt gradually and reform the judiciary.

"Our main goals are: gradual lowering of the debt through keeping budget and fiscal deficit under control and adapting to the economic growth, introducing a transparent fiscal system," Rama said in the program.

According to medium-term projections, the government would seek to keep public debt at a suitable level to promote positive growth.

Rama also pledged to mobilize all needed technical, human and financial resources to enhance the rule of law in the country, underscoring that the new government is committed to undertaking a radical long-term and comprehensive reform to re-establish the integrity of the judiciary and justice institutions.

The reform contains law amendments for the organization and functioning of the High Council of Justice and the Constitutional Court, changes to the Criminal Code and an uncompromising fight against organized crimes, corruption and illicit trafficking.

Reforming the country's judicial system and establishing a National Bureau of Investigation are among the top priorities of the new government program.

The new proposed National Bureau of Investigation will be instrumental in combating organized crimes, corruption, terrorism and illicit trade and trafficking.

The government's anti-corruption policy will focus on prevention, increasing transparency in state institutions and punishing corrupt individuals.
