Pakistan's Prime Minister-elect Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday vowed to deal with the worst energy crisis the country is currently facing shortly after he was elected the country's Prime Minister for the third time.

"A comprehensive plan has also been finalized to resolve the issue of power load-shedding and other problems of the country," Nawaz Sharif told the National Assembly in his maiden speech.

Pakistan faces power shortage of thousands of megawatts, which has badly affected the country's economic activities. Analysts say that the outgoing ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) faced defeat as it could not solve the problem.

Corruption will not be tolerated at any level and those found involved in it will be made accountable, Nawaz Sharif said. He said that corrupt elements will have to face harsh accountability.

He said that all appointments will be made on merit and in a transparent manner, adding that the days of favoritism have gone.

Highlighting the priorities of his government, Nawaz Sharif said a comprehensive national plan of action has been framed. He said his new government accepts the challenges but will not made hollow slogans to hoodwink the people.

"The country is faced with multiple challenges including power outages, price hike, unemployment, lawlessness & terrorism," Nawaz Sharif said. He said that he will approach all political leaders to seek their support for the solution of the country's problems.

He pledged to work day and night to change the destiny of the people and country.

"All the doors for misadventurism must be closed forever," the prime minister-elect said.

He said he is grateful to the nation for giving him the responsibility to serve the nation. "I will not hurt the trust of the people reposed in me," he said.

He also assured the opposition lawmakers that his government will hold them in high esteem and will seek their guidance in running the country's affairs.

The PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim congratulated Nawaz Sharif and assured that his party will support him on issues of national interest.

Speaking in the National Assembly, he advised Nawaz Sharif to address to the issues of terrorism and energy crisis. Endi
