China's Huawei equips information center of Cameroon's School of Posts and Telecommunication

YAOUNDE, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese firm, Huawei Technologies, has made a donation of communication equipments valued at 3 million U.S. dollars to Cameroon's National Posts and Telecommunication School (ENSPT), the general director for Huawei Cameroon, Shi Weiliang, has said.

He was speaking on Wednesday in Yaounde during the ceremony for official handover of the materials to ENSPT's Information Technologies and Communication (ICT) center. "These equipments are part of Huawei's contribution to participate in the reduction of technological gap between Cameroon and the outside world," Shi said.

Jean-Marie Dongo, the school's director, said Huawei's support came at the right time when ENSPT is undergoing restructuring to develop new learning areas that respond to the market demands in the telecommunication sector.

Cameroon's Posts and Telecommunication Minister Jean-Pierre Biyiti bi Essam who spoke during the same ceremony, said ENSPT, which was created in 1969, has taken a long time before revising its training programs, reinforcing the capacities of its teachers as well as replacing its obsolete teaching materials.

The Charge d'Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Cameroon, Li Changlin urged all Chinese companies operating in Cameroon to initiate social projects in the country to help promote its economic development program.

He said the Chinese government has always encouraged Chinese companies to engage in corporate social responsibility wherever they invest.

Since 2011, Huawei which began its operations in Cameroon in 2005, has trained 282 Cameroonian technicians and engineers, with 42 of them having been sent to training centers in China. Enditem
