Foreign experts and media have so far reacted positively to Chinese President Hu Jintao's four-day visit to the United States, which took place last week.

The visit has "created a good atmosphere for China-U.S. relations, both countries will deal with various issues with mutual understanding cooperation, which is the greatest achievement of this visit," said Selcuk Colakoglu, head of Asia-Pacific Studies at the International Strategic Research Organization in Turkey.

Hu's visit not only contributes to China-U.S. relations, but also has an important impact on world politics and economy, which is conducive to creating an international environment based on cooperation as well as narrowing the gaps between East and West, he said, adding that in this sense, his visit was very successful.

Charles Sanga, former Tanzanian ambassador to China, said President Hu's visit is of great significance. As the largest developing country and Africa's long-term friend, China has developed increasingly close relations with the United States, the largest developed country.

The world is experiencing profound changes at present, which need "collective leadership" and a fair and reasonable management mechanism, otherwise there will be hegemony and injustice, he said, adding that China is the representative of developing countries to promote world peace and stability.

The new development of China-U.S. relations conforms to the trend of peace and development, two major themes of the 21st century, said Mohammed El Saket, former ambassador of the Arab League to China.

Maintaining and strengthening China-U.S. cooperation is not only beneficial to both countries' own development, but also to world development and stability, he said.

In major international and regional issues such as the Middle East peace process, the participation of China and the United States is extremely important. The consensus and mutual understanding reached by the two countries can contribute to these problems and protect the interests of relevant countries, he added.

Jamal Abdul Jawad, researcher for Al Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies in Egypt, said the development of China-U.S. relations is important to both sides. Maintaining close cooperation between China and the United States will not affect the interests of poor countries.

China's growing strength and development will promote the progress and prosperity of other developing countries, while developed countries will pay increasing attention to developing countries, he said.

As the world's two largest economies, China-U.S. cooperation will directly benefit both countries, helping pull the world economy out of recession, Philippine Senator Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos said.

He also believed that the cooperation will help promote the Philippines' exports and other member countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), accelerating the economic development of ASEAN.

The U.S. newspaper Chicago Tribune said Hu's visit can be considered successful, with "a few seeds sewn for less awkward relations in the future."
