The British government has committed 1.5 million pounds (1.94 million U.S. dollars) to expand its LawtechUK program, aiming to accelerate AI adoption in legal services, the Ministry of Justice announced on Wednesday.

Part of the government's "Plan for Change," the funding seeks to modernize the legal sector by developing self-service tools, supporting startups in securing private investment, and clarifying liability frameworks for AI-driven technologies.

Since its launch in 2019, LawtechUK has received 6 million pounds in government funding, attracting more than 139 million pounds in private investment and supporting 176 startups. The legal technology sector now contributes 37 billion pounds annually to the British economy and employs over 300,000 people. (1 pound = 1.3 U.S. dollar)
