Fifty-five people have been injured since the start of protests outside the Israeli embassy in Cairo, the Egyptian Health Ministry said.

Egyptians protest against Israeli raid.

The injured people were suffering from bruises, cuts and fainting due to too many people crowded outside the embassy, said Assistant Health Minister Adel Adawi.

According to Egypt's official news agency MENA, 41 people were treated on the spot, while 14 others were moved to hospital.

The protests were caused by the killing of five Egyptian soldiers on the Egyptian-Israeli border by an Israeli attack on Thursday.

Scores of people gathered in front of the Egyptian cabinet's building in downtown Cairo, condemning the killing. Demonstrators shouted anti-Israeli slogans and raised banners calling for firm reaction to the Israeli attack.

They also demanded deportation of the Israeli ambassador and recall of the Egyptian ambassador from Tel Aviv.

The death of the Egyptian soldiers must be avenged, they said.

Thousands of demonstrators, including members of the Revolution Youth Coalition and Muslim Brotherhood, rallied overnight from Saturday evening near the Israeli embassy in Cairo against the raid over the border.

The Israeli flag over the embassy was shortly replaced with an Egyptian one by a young man during the overnight protest.

Leaders from two Egyptian political groups and several presidential candidates laid out eight demands earlier Sunday in a joint appeal to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) as their response to the assault.

Abu al-Ila Madi from el-Wasat party, el-Sayed Badawi from el- Wafd and three presidential candidates determined the appeal during a joint meeting, according to the official news agency MENA.

Besides recalling the Egyptian ambassador from Tel Aviv and expelling the Israeli ambassador, they also asked for accusing the Israeli officials related to the attack and reporting it to the United Nations Security Council.

Meanwhile, the youth movements released a statement calling for halting all moves for normalization with Israel and natural gas trade between the two countries.
