M7.1 quake hits E. coast of Japan, Tunami warned

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 jolted northeastern Japan Sunday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
A tsunami warning was issued for Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the 9:57 a.m. quake, which registered 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in inland areas of northern Iwate Prefecture, across Miyagi Prefecture and parts of Fukushima Prefecture.

The quake measured 3 on the Japanese scale in other parts of the prefectures as well as some parts of Aomori, Akita and Yamagata prefectures, according to the agency.
No abnormalities were reported by Tokyo Electric Power Co. at the Fukushima Daiichi and Daini nuclear power plants following the quake.
The focus of the quake was off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture at a depth of about 10 kilometers, the agency said.
