Russia is ready to support efforts to further promote non-proliferation with the new administration of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and allow broader access to civilian nuclear technologies, Russia's foreign minister said Tuesday.

Moscow has always been committed to giving full support to the agency, Sergei Lavrov said during a meeting with new IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano.

"We want our support to help the international agency achieve all of its goals, which include granting broader access to the benefits of peaceful nuclear technology to all of the states and further non-proliferation work," the Interfax quoted Lavrov as saying.

The minister said he hoped Russia and the IAEA would continue cooperating constructively.

"We hope to strengthen this cooperation and to make it more productive during your term in office," Lavrov told Amano, adding that Russia "wants to comprehensively promote all of the good traditions that exist in our relations."

Amano is on a three-day visit to Russia. On Monday, he met with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Amano told Putin he was ready to discuss with Russia a wide range of issues, including situations in Syria and Iran, as well as the development of radiation therapy.
