Nepali president expects to strengthen Nepal-China ties

Nepali President Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to visit China for a friendly goodwill visit on Oct. 26 to attend the concluding ceremony of Shanghai World Expo 2010.

This is Yadav's first visit to China as a president after federal democratic republic in Nepal. Yadav expressed his happiness and eagerness to the visit in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Sunday.

"I personally feel the testimony of success of Shanghai Expo is the tremendous progress that China has made in the economic and technological sector," the president said.

He said that a visit like this would enable both the countries to further strengthen the historical ties and foster deep understanding.

"I will have the opportunities to meet and interact with leaders and will also be helpful to get insight about the challenges that China envisioned in its historical progress," he said.

In another context the president said that Nepal is committed to and believes in "One China" and Nepal will never allow its territory for any activities inimical to the interests of China.

He said that China has always stood and supported Nepali people 's desire for change, stability, peace and development.

He expressed his confidence that his visit will contribute positively to further enhance the historical age -long friendship between the two countries.

The historical foundation of the friendship should be nurtured through regular visits, exchanges, interactions and mutual understanding, he said.

Upon answering a query about the 55th year of the establishment of the Nepal-China Diplomatic relations, he said that this is the most appropriate moment to remember and pay respect to the leaders who laid the foundation of Nepal-China relations.

In recent time, there is a lot of increment in the people to people relation between the two countries with the sharing of trade, tourism and commerce.

The Chinese government has been supporting Nepal for the socio- economic development including human resource development, industrial and infrastructural development.

In the context, President Yadav expressed hope that Chinese cooperation with Nepal will continue to grow in the days ahead.

"Nepal must come out from its prolonged transition first and ensure peace and stability", he noted.

The relations will be further strengthened with the interaction among the people at various levels. he said.

Sharing his plans to boost the relations between Nepal and China, he said through the direct exchanges and visits, "we will be informed about our strengths, advantages, needs and concerns."

"This is my first visit however, I also hope to visit China in near future for broader interaction with the political leadership and exchange ideas to take our relation ahead with cooperation in many areas of common interest," he said.

He further said that, to make relations more profound, "we need to adopt a policy of increased interaction at every sphere of activities, mainly in the economic and technological sectors with mutual trust and goodwill."

"I am very hopeful that my visit to China will strengthen the relationship of Nepal and China," he said.
