U.S.-led United Nations Command in South Korea said Wednesday it will hold a colonel-level meeting with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at Panmunjom on Thursday.

The two sides originally planned to meet on Tuesday, but the DPRK requested a delay citing administrative reasons. The new timetable was proposed by the DPRK, the command said.

The working-level military talks were initially suggested by the UNC to discuss the sinking of a South Korean warship in March with 46 sailors left dead which an international investigation blamed Pyongyang's torpedo attack for the sinking, but the DPRK has insisted on its innocence and previously rejected the proposal.

The talks, if held, comes after the United Nations Security Council issued a presidential statement condemning the attack on the warship. Pyongyang said it was satisfied with the statement, which stopped short of directly naming it as a culprit.

The UNC and the DPRK have held 16 general-level talks since 1998 as part of a trust-building measure, and the latest round was held in March 2009.
