Chinese Special Envoy to Darfur Liu Guijin on Saturday arrived in Khartoum in a several-day visit to Sudan during which he will meet a number of Sudanese government officials.

"This is my first visit to Sudan after the general elections and formation of the new Sudanese government. I would like, during this visit, to exchange viewpoints with Sudanese officials on the issues that concern our two countries", Liu Guijin told reporters upon arrival at Khartoum airport early Saturday.

The Chinese envoy regarded the Sudanese general elections, held in April 2010, as an important benchmark on the course for the realization of peace and stability in Sudan.

"Sudan has organized general elections that have progressed smoothly. This event constitutes an important step for Sudan towards building peace and achieving reconciliation and development", he added.

He further expressed confidence in Sudan to surpass all obstacles through dialogue and negotiations, saying that "we are happy with what Sudan has achieved of positive results to boost the peace process in Darfur and implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA)".

The Chinese envoy is expected to hold talks on Sunday with Sudanese Cabinet Minister Luka Biong, Ghazi Salahuddin, who is the Sudanese government official in charge of the Darfur file, Ali Karti, the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mutrif Suddiq, the Sudanese State Minister for Humanitarian Affairs.

The Chinese envoy's visit to Khartoum tends to get acquainting with plans of the new Sudanese government concerning the Darfur peace together with the progress in the implementation of the CPA, inked between north and south Sudan.

The Chinese official will also review progress of the Sino- Sudanese relations in different fields.
