Earlier in the day, President Hu joined other state leaders for celebration activities, including a parade on Moscow's Red Square and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

During his stay in Moscow, President Hu met Russian war veterans, who helped China fight Japanese invaders in World War II.

On the sidelines of Victory Day celebrations, President Hu met Russian leaders and they exchanged views on bilateral ties and important world and regional issues.

In the World Anti-Fascist War, the Soviet Union fought 80 percent of the German fascist forces in the European theater, which cost the Soviet Union 27 million lives and immeasurable national wealth, and made great contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.

The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was an important part of the World Anti-Fascist War, and China was a main battleground in the East.

The Chinese people and army contained and annihilated much of Japanese invaders' military strength and crushed the Japanese militarists' attempt to gain hegemony in Asia. The Chinese army and people made great contributions to the world's victory over fascism.

In August 1945, a crucial stage of China's war against Japanese invaders, the Soviet Red Army marched into the battleground of northeast China and joined the Chinese army and people in fighting Japanese invaders, providing important assistance for the Chinese people's ultimate victory.

This is the second time President Hu took part in Russia's Victory Day celebrations. In May 2005, President Hu attended in Moscow ceremonies marking the 60th anniversary of victory of the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany.
