An earthquake measuring 6.7 magnitude on the Richter scale rocked eastern parts of Indonesia on Monday morning, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

The quake occurred at 2:41 a.m. Jakarta time (1941 GMT Sunday) with epicenter at 28 km southwest Raba of West Nusa Tenggara province and at 25 km under sea bed, an official of the agency named Only Ardiatno told Xinhua.

The intensity of the quake was felt at 4 to 5 MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) at Bima, Dompu, at 3 to 4 MMI at Sumbawa Besar, 3 MMI at Mataram of the province, he said.

The quake also felt up to the capital of South Sulawesi province of Makassar at 2 to 3 MMI and the capital of Bali province with 2 to 3 MMI, said Ardiatno.

"The quake causes cracking at the wall of district police office at Bima and its ceiling fell," he told Xinhua.

The quake comes as Indonesia is conducting reconstruction at West Sumatra and Wesrt Java provinces after hit by 7.6 and 7.3 magnitudes quakes recently, which killed more than 1,000 people.

Indonesia with a population of over 230 million sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone so called the "Pacific Ring of Fire," where two continental plates, stretching from Western hemisphere to Japan, meet that cause frequent s seismic and volcanic movements.
