"We will make our contribution to building a harmonious world of sustained peace and common prosperity," Xi told former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who has joined the UN Foundation's Board of Directors.

China always supported the important role of the United Nations in international affairs, Xi said, hoping that all the international community would make efforts to strengthen the function of the United Nations.

Xi briefed Annan and other members of the UN Foundation's Board of Directors about China's measures to cope with the international financial crisis.

China would continue offering help for other developing nations within capacity to achieve development, he noted.

As to the climate change issue, Xi said China was ready to make active coordination with all concerned parties to strive for positive achievements at Copenhagen Conference.

Annan said China had made impressive progress in coping with climate change, environmental protection, energy saving and transport issues, noting that the country also made positive contribution to the UN work.

The UN Foundation would increase cooperation with China, he said.

The UN Foundation, a public charity, was created in 1998 after entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner gave a historic 1-billion-gift to support UN causes and activities.
