Scores of colorful hot air balloons have filled the skies in Mexico, as the 2013 Leon International Balloon Festival takes off. The balloon fiesta has drawn balloonists and visitors from around the world to take part.

Dozens of hot air balloons filled the Guanajuato skyline with splashes of color in central Mexico on Friday with an array of colors and shapes, ranging from the traditional tear-drop to princess carriages.

Scores of colorful hot air balloons have filled the skies in Mexico, as the 2013 Leon International Balloon Festival takes off.

Over the past decade, the festival has brought together almost two million people. The organizer of the festival said that the festival sought to bring tourism to the industrial city of Leon, which is known primarily for selling leather goods and shoes.

"It’s a marvelous event. An incredible spectacle. It brings together 200 balloons from 15 countries. We have seen a princess carriage fly today, and other different special figures." said Escandra Salim, Director, Leon Int’l Balloon Festival.

Balloonists come from all over the world for the event.

"Oh it’s wonderful, that’s what makes us come back again, is seeing all the people who love the balloons and being able to put on a show for all the people. We love the Mexican people to come out, the Spanish people." said Logan Belford, Hot Air Balloon Pilot, Tennessee, U.S..

"I came here with some friends because we have always heard the balloon fair is a very nice experience. It’s wonderful seeing them take off." said Marcela, Visitor, Celaya, Mexico.

The 4-day Leon International Balloon Festival runs until November 18th.
