There’s an old saying that “The outfit makes the man.” Well, it couldn’t be more evident than at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, which is putting on an exhibition celebrating the costumes of Emmy nominated shows.

The exhibition is free and open to public. And as our Hollywood reporter finds out, costumes are much more than just what the actor’s wear - they’re also part of the story.

The Seventh Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design exhibit is the collaboration between the F I D M Museum and the Television Academy. Attendees stroll through the fifteen different television shows representing the finest in TV costume design. From contemporary to fantasy, costumes from "Behind the Candelabra," "Game of Thrones" and "Downtown Abbey" are among the 120 garments on display.

Just like how a good script moves the story, it is the costume that brings the character to life. Fashion expert Nick Verreos underlined the important role costumes play in TV shows.

And as Nick explains it, there’s more to costumes than just stitching fabric together; it’s an art form.

Some of these costumes are nominated for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. However, the diversity of designs will make voting a winner a daunting task.
