There is forecast for more rain in the coming days, as water levels of the Yellow River rise to the highest in decades. Many areas are facing the risk of renewed flooding, while others are struggling with the aftermath.

As heavy rainfall continues to pound much of northern China, a third flood peak has formed in the Lanzhou section of the Yellow River.

Said to be the biggest flood Lanzhou has witnessed in 26 years, water flow in that section of the river had nearly topped 4,000 cubic meters per second during its peak. The highest level of flood alert is to be issued when water flow reaches 4,500 cubic meters per second.

"This used to be a platform here, where residents could hang out and relax. But now it's all submerged in water."

In the downtown areas of Lanzhou, the downpour has brought traffic to a halt. In some areas the depth of water reached as deep as 3.5 meters.

And in the nearby Yongdeng county, residents have been evacuated as their farmland and residence were soaked by rain.

In Southeast China, meteorological authorities say typhoon Saola is approaching Taiwan with a maximum wind force of up to scale 12 near its center.

Saola is forecasted to move northwest at a speed of 5-10 kilometers per hour and is gaining intensity as it nears eastern Taiwan gradually.

Local authorities have issued a sea warning for the tropical storm.

In northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, the heaviest downpours in six decades hit the regional capital Yinchuan.

According to the city's flood control and drought relief headquarters, precipitation had exceeded 100 milimeters, or half of the average annual rainfall in the city.

And that has made driving a nightmare for the sedan owners.

"I was just driving by when I saw the sedan was in trouble and there were passengers inside. So I decided to help."

According to the local weather forecast, more rains are expected to hit the city, with floods and other geological disasters a possibility in southern and central areas of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
