Support for a probe into the death of Yasser Arafat has come from the Palestinian Hamas movement. A spokesman says it’s necessary although exhuming the body would go against the traditions of conservative Muslims.

Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum said, "The Hamas movement was the first to stress the need for a serious investigation into the killing of the martyr, Yasser Arafat, especially if this is an assassination and not a natural death. Therefore the search for the truth into the death of Yasser Arafat is a national and Arab duty; it must combine all the efforts of Palestinians and Arabs to discover what happened, how Yasser Arafat was assassinated and who stands behind this crime."
