Libya is also observing Eid al-Ad-ha, but with an estimated 15 thousand killed during the recent war in Libya, many are not up to celebrating.

Like many Libyans who have lost family members in this conflict, there are mixed feelings.

Salma Hamza, Mohammed's Grandmother, said, " He came to me and told me everything he was doing with the fighters. I was proud because I know what he was doing. His last I know he was happy."

But just below the surface, pride succumbs to the searing pain of loss

9-year-old Hamza misses his brother terribly.As does his sister. His grandmother and cousins. The family is representative of thousands others like them throughout Libya. Grieving family members, coming to terms with the cost of war.

Hamza Hamza, Mohammed's Uncle, said, " I am sorry. Sorry sorry sorry. Sorry in my heart. I told him not to go. I go. I told him your family needs you here. "

But his family members believe he is with them in spirit.

And that Mohammed and others like him did not die in vain.

As Hamza heads for the main prayer session this Eid, his heart is heavier than in years past.

But his nephew is in his prayers. He believes Mohammed is watching from somewhere beyond, smiling down at the Libya he left behind.
