The Communist Party of China was born in 1921. Under its guidance, Chinese people founded the People's Republic of China in 1949. Pursuing a socialist path with Chinese characteristics, the CPC with its people have made great achievements, making China one of the most important countries in the world. Let's take a look at the founding of the CPC.

In an exhibition themed Road of Revival in China National Museum, one painting is called All-Inclusiveness. It features the academic elite who taught at Peking University from 1917. Two of them are Li Dazhao and Chen Duxiu, the main founders of the Communist Party of China.

In the early 20th Century, China was still semi-colonial and semi-feudal, and some patriotic young people were looking for ways to save the country. The answer turned out to be Marxism-Leninism, brought by the Russian October Revolution.

On May 4th, 1919, teachers and students from 13 higher learning institutes in Beijing, including Peking University, protested against imperialist powers' trampling on China's sovereignty in the Paris Peace Conference. It's remembered as the May 4th Movement.

Professor Qi Biao of Institute of CPC History Research said, "In this movement, the vanguard intellectuals, such as Li Dazhao and Chen Duxiu, are pioneers in popularizing Marxism in China. Since then, other intellectuals, such as Mao Zedong, Deng Zhongxia and Zhou Enlai, became Marxism followers gradually."

In 1920, Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao set up early organizations of the Communist Party in Shanghai and Beijing. From then, such organizations were founded in many cities and among overseas Chinese students in Japan and Europe. Meanwhile, Marxism was being popularized among workers, and there were more and more worker followers of Marxism, which laid down the foundations for the CPC establishment.

Professor Chang Ruiqing of China National Museum said, "The early organizations of the Communist Party attached great importance to the studies and popularization of Marxism. And this book is the first Chinese version of The Communist Manifesto. The book was translated by Chen Wangdao, a member of the organization in Shanghai, at the request of Chen Duxiu in August 1920."

July 23rd, 1921 witnessed the opening of the first National Congress of the Communist Party of China, with 13 participants, representing more than 50 Party members nationwide. The meeting marked the birth of the CPC, a party of the proletariats. Its founding also ushered into a new era where the CPC fought for national independence and liberation of the people, as well as national prosperity and people's welfare.

One year later, in July 1922, the second CPC National Congress was held in Shanghai. The conference pointed out that China was a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society, and the task for the CPC was a democratic revolution against imperialism and feudalism.
