Tourists visiting China's southern tropical island of Hainan can enjoy a duty-free policy on purchases of some imported goods. The Hainan provincial government announced the policy last month, aimed at boosting tourism and consumption.

The process of enjoying the duty-free policy for domestic tourists is actually quite simple.

First, Chinese tourists should go shopping at the only authorized duty free shop in Sanya, Hainan Province.

Upon arrival, shoppers are required to show their proof of identity and details of their departure flight.

The store will pack up the goods, and deliver them directly to the airport.

Then, tourists can pick up their goods at Sanya airport upon their return home.

And the duty-free shop vendors have geared up for buyers from around the country.

Tan Rui, Deputy Manager of Sanya Duty-free Shop, Hainan, said, "We have carried rounds of stress tests to our sales staff. Through testing and our training, their customer service skills have greatly improved. I think we're ready for it."

The duty-free goods price cap is 5,000 yuan for each trip. Tourists can receive a partial rebate for amounts exceeding 5,000 yuan.

And visitors already on the island are ready to snap up their favorite goods.

Hangzhou Tourists said, "I will drop by when the policy is officially launched tomorrow. I will buy something if my favorite products are still available."

Hainan adopted a tax rebate policy for foreign tourists on January 1st this year. Since foreign tourists account for less than 3 percent of visitors to Hainan, the policy failed to produce the desired effect. Local governments are hoping the expanded preferential policy will attract more Chinese visitors to the province.
